Yoga Class Etiquette

  • Try to arrive early it gives you time to relax, breathe and settle in. If you do arrive late try to enter as quietly as possible and place your mat quietly and with minimum fuss.
  • Please tell me if you have any injuries (past or present), concerns or contraindications. I will be able to help you find adaptations or alternatives for certain poses.
  • Please remove your shoes near the door…… it’s the yogic way!
  • Enjoy the quiet and please turn off your mobile phone, there are few things more embarrassing than scrabbling to turn off your phone in the middle of class.
  • Sweat is good — it’s a sign you’re working hard but if you are prone to heavy perspiration please bring a towel to mop your brow.
  • Please wear loose comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely. Yoga is a barefoot discipline.
  • Please bring a bottle of water.
  • If you need to use the restroom during class excuse yourself quietly, trying not to disturb the concentration of the class.
  • Please stay until the end. Savasana is a lovely period of relaxation at the end of each yoga class. If you roll up your mat and dash out the door during this quiet time you will be short changing yourself. Forget about the to-do list that awaits you after class, and allow yourself to really sink in to this incredibly restoring pose. Breathe and remind yourself this is why you’re here - You’ll be glad you did!
